Traffic Alert: Scheduled Bridge Maintenance to Impact Nighttime Commute on I-95/I-495

Travelers in Prince George's County should prepare for temporary traffic interruptions on the Capital Beltway. Starting at 11:00 pm on Thursday, March 7, and concluding at 5:00am on Friday, March 8, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will be conducting essential maintenance on the I-95/I-495 bridge over the Potomac River, also known as the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

The maintenance operation will necessitate several brief, scheduled openings of the drawbridge throughout the night. These openings will cause temporary halts in traffic flow in both directions of the Capital Beltway, lasting approximately 15 to 20 minutes each time. The purpose of this maintenance is to ensure the bridge's safety and functionality.

Drivers planning to use the bridge during these hours are encouraged to factor in extra travel time to navigate the expected delays. The State Highway Administration is aware of the potential inconvenience to motorists and urges everyone to exercise caution and patience while driving through the construction zone.

Meet the Artists from across of the DMV at the "Inspired by the Masters" showcase of original artwork inspired by a renowned artist's work, nature, history, artistic movement, or current events.

View the exhibition at the Bowie City Hall Gallery through May 18, 2024.

Psi Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, WE CAN, and Del. Bartlett Champion House Bill 37 for Women's Reentry Services

The Psi Epsilon Omega (PEO) Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® in partnership with the Women’s Equity Center and Action Network (WE CAN), and Delegate J. Sandy Bartlett of District 32 wrote House Bill 37 entitled “Reentry Services for Women – Commission and Pilot Program - Establishment,” reinforcing its commitment to social justice through advocacy.

The bill is designed to connect formerly incarcerated women in Maryland to supportive services upon their release. It would create a comprehensive reentry plan for the women and identify service gaps. “We recognize the importance of assisting women as they transition from incarceration to reentry into the community,” said Karen S. Hicks, PEO President. “That’s why we partnered with Del. Bartlett and WE CAN to write this bill and continue to give back to those whose lives have been affected by incarceration through our programs.”

In 2023, PEO chapter members donated over 350 personal care items and nearly $600 in gift cards, and on January 26, the chapter donated 75 bags filled with personal toiletries and winter hats and gloves for distribution to women transitioning from the Maryland Correctional Institute for Women in Jessup.

A hearing for House Bill 37 is scheduled for March 7 at 1:00pm.
